Loving Highsmith is a unique look at the life of celebrated American author Patricia Highsmith. The films narrative is based on the unpublished diaries of the bestselling novelist. Focusing on her quest for identity and her troubled love life, the film sheds new light on her writing. Family, friends, her own voice and beautifully interweaved archive material draw a vivid portrait of one of the most prolific female authors to date. Highsmith wrote over 22 novels, many were adapted to the big screen: best known are Strangers on a Train, adapted by Alfred Hitchock, The Talented Mr. Ripley adapted for the screen by René Clément, Wim Wenders and Anthony Minghella, and Carol, a partly autobiographic novel on a lesbian love story, by Todd Haynes.
